ecoWise meets with China Ministry Officials

On 12 July 2016, ecoWise CEO, Mr Lee Thiam Seng met up with Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China (MEP) representatives to exchange innovative ideas on safeguarding public health and environmental safety.

It was a fruitful discussion with the representatives as they shared about the ways to protect our precious environment.

Arriving at our Energy Resource Centre at Gardens by the Bay, Deputy Director General of MEP’s Department of International Cooperation, Ms Song Xiaozhi (宋小智) and Deputy Director Mr Chen Gang (陈刚) sat down in the cooling meeting room, which is powered by the biomass power plant, and were given a brief overview of the plant by Mr Lee. The officials listened with great interest as Mr Lee gave them a breakdown on the plant. As the plant is a tri-generation power plant, it not only generates electricity, but also provides heating and cooling services. Its flue gas post treatment system also ensures 100% compliance to air pollution control standards. The officials then toured around the plant to have a better understanding of the inner workings of the plant. The visit ended with a gift exchange, with Ms Song presenting a box of tea leaves to Mr Lee.

Formerly known as State Environmental Protection Administration, MEP is setup to protect China’s air, water, and land from pollution and contamination. It has funded a number of laboratories including the Centre for Industrial Flue Gas Control.

As environmental protection is an international issue, the Department of International Cooperation liaises with organisations overseas to coordinate environmental cooperation.
Mr Lee showed Ms Song a model of the power plant as she looked on with great interest. They head off to tour around the plant soon after to see how everything is made possible.
